Riguardo a quella che viene chiamata l’asta di moto più attesa dell’anno, Bonhams ha annunciato che parte della collezione includerà una grande mostra fotografica dell’avventura motociclistica risalente al 2007 “The Long Way Down” degli attori Charley Boorman e Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi di Star Wars).

I 32 scatti raccolti dalla Big Earth Productions già produttori di Long Way Down e Long Way Round, catturano scene di quasi tre mesi del viaggio della coppia. Un estenuante ride di 9.000 miglia, la maggior parte delle quali percorse attraverso l’Africa (stima $ 5,000- $ 7,000). I profitti derivanti dalla vendita andranno all’UNICEF.

At what is being called the most anticipated motorcycle auction of the year, Bonhams has announced that part of its motoring ephemera collection will include a large photographic exhibit of actors Ewan McGregor’s and Charley Boorman’s Long Way Down motorcycle journey.

The 32-piece, professionally matted and framed collection of pictures originally provided by Big Earth Productions, producers of Long Way Down and Long Way Round, captures scenes of the duo’s nearly three-month, 9,000 mile odyssey taken in 2007, most of which was through Africa. Pope Benedict XVI Harley-Davidson to be sold for charity at Bonhams Paris Sale

Una Harley-Davidson con la firma di Papa Benedetto XVI all’asta Bonhams di Parigi del 5 febbraio al Gran Palais con una stima di € 15,000-25,000.

Pensata per essere donata al Santo Padre a Roma in occasione delle celebrazioni per il 110° anniversario della leggendaria casa di Milwaukee, è corredata di un serbatoio autografato da Papa Benedetto XVI.

In origine furono inviati al Santo Padre due serbatoi per essere firmati e, una volta ritornati in fabbrica, sono stati montati su due distinte moto. Di queste, una è esposta al museo Harley-Davidson di Milwaukee, l’altra è la Heritage Softail Classic destinata all’asta Bonhams al Gran Palais di Parigi.

Questa bellissima Harley era in attesa di una cerimonia speciale in cui sarebbe stata presentata al Papa di fronte a decine di migliaia di possessori Harley-Davidson a Roma nel giugno del 2013. Tuttavia, nessuno avrebbe immaginato l’abdicazione di Benedetto XVI nel gennaio 2013 e così la moto è diventata anche un omaggio inaugurale per Papa Francesco.

“E ‘un onore essere stati scelti per vendere questa Harley dalla storia così particolare. Ci aspettiamo un’asta combattutta anche più del solito vista la causa benefica”, ha detto Ben Walker, Direttore Internazionale del Dipartimento Motorcycle per Bonhams.

“Nel mese di febbraio 2014, Bonhams ha venduto la Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide firmata da Sua Santità Papa Francesco. Ora siamo lieti di offrire una moto benedetta sia da Papa Francesco che da Benedetto XVI; il tutto è avvenuto in un periodo cruciale per la Chiesa cattolica, e ci aspettiamo molto interesse per questo”.

Questa moto unica vedrà i suoi proventi devoluti a Stowarzyszenie Przyjazny Świat Dziecka (Friendly World Association), una associazione benefica polacca indipendente che offre assistenza e sostegno ai bambini e alle famiglie in difficoltà.

La Harley-Davidson sarà venduto in data 5 febbraio 2015, all’interno dell’asta “Les Grandes Marques du Monde” al Grand Palais di Parigi.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle blessed with the signature of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and later received by Pope Francis, is to be sold for charity at Bonhams 5 February Paris Sale.

The motorcycle is to be offered as part of Bonhams Grand Palais auction, entered at no reserve, with an estimate of €15,000-25,000 (£11,700-19,600). In a special countdown to Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebrations, two commemorative motorcycle petrol tanks were presented to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

These were signed, and returned to the motorcycle legends US headquarters where they were mounted to their respective motorcycles. Of these, one remains in the Harley-Davidson museum in Milwaukee, USA. The remaining motorcycle – the FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail Classic destined for Bonhams 2015 sale – lay waiting for a special ceremony where it would be presented to the Pope in front of tens-of thousands of Harley-Davidson riders at 2013s 110^th anniversary celebration.

However, in an unforeseen change to the papacy, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI abdicated in January 2013. Subsequently this saw the Softail Classic presented to the newly inaugurated Pope, his holiness Pope Francis.

“It’s an honour to have been selected to sell this fantastic machine. We expect a lot of interest, and hope to raise some spirited bidding for the very worthy charity selected,” said Ben Walker, International Director for Bonhams Motorcycle Department.

“In February 2014, Bonhams sold 1,585cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide signed by His Holiness Pope Francis. Now we’re delighted to offer a motorcycle received by both Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI; it was present during a pivotal period in the papacy of the Catholic Church, and we expect a lot of interest in it.”

Entered at no reserve, this unique motorcycle will have its auction proceeds donated to Stowarzyszenie Przyjazny Świat Dziecka (Friendly World Association), a Polish volunteer, independent, non-profit organization that offers care and support to children and families in need.

The Harley-Davidson will be sold on 5 February 2015 as part of Bonhams’ Les Grandes Marques du Monde sale at the Grand Palais in Paris.

 

Market Spots. Yamaha RD350LC, identified flying object

Qualche giorno fa mi trovavo alle prese con la manutenzione ordinaria della mia auto all’interno di un officina specializzata, quando dietro un angolo ho intravisto dei colori a me familiari. Un lampo e subito ho avuto un flashback nella memoria. Mi sono bastati pochi attimi e quel rosso e bianco hanno evocato in me immagini care. Sequenze di un film, quello dei miei anni ’80.

In quegli anni il motociclismo viveva un momento d’oro. Il motomondiale era tutto in tre gare: 125,250 e 500 cc. Le moto erano leggerissime ed i motori a 2 tempi imperversavano da quando Giacomo Agostini aveva timbrato il primo mondiale 500 per la Yamaha nel 1975. Tutta l’industria motociclistica in quegli anni sfornava repliche delle moto racing a 2 tempi e gli appassionati erano pazzi per moto leggendarie come Kawasaki Mach III, Honda NS, Suzuki RG Gamma e Yamaha RD.

 

Queste moto alla loro leggerezza e maneggevolezza non associavano purtroppo un telaio e dei freni all’altezza delle loro elevatissime prestazioni, rendendole spesso ingovernabili per i piloti meno esperti. Ciò ha contribuito molto alla diffusione del loro appellativo di “bare volanti”. Incuranti di questo, noi ragazzi degli anni ’80, desideravamo ardentemente possederle ed io fui uno di questi. E non mi fermai alla “piccola” RD350LC ma proseguii con la “sorella maggiore”, la RD500LC. Praticamente la replica della 500 campione del mondo con Kenny Roberts.

Venendo al modello in questione, si tratta di una RD350LC 31k del 1984 in perfette condizioni visti i 30 anni di età ed i soli 15 mila chilometri di percorrenza. Infatti la moto era rimasta invenduta ed utilizzata dal concessionario (originario!) solo per piccoli spostamenti di lavoro per tutti questi anni. Il nuovo proprietario l’ha amorevolmente sistemata e preparata per essere iscritta al registro storico italiano, ed ora è pronta per essere venduta.

Few days ago I was in a car dealer with my car for the routine car maintenance, when around a corner I saw those colors so familiar to me. It was a flashback in my memory. In few moments those red and white colors evoked in me images so beloved. Sequences of a film, the one of my 80’s.

In those years, the motorcycle industry was living its golden moment. The world championship was all in three races: 125, 250 and 500 cc. The bikes were very light and 2-stroke engines raged since Giacomo Agostini had stamped the first 500cc world title for Yamaha in 1975. The motorcycle industry in those years produced replicas of racing motorcycles 2-stroke and fans were crazy for legendary bikes like Kawasaki Mach III, Honda NS, Yamaha RD and Suzuki RG Gamma.

These bikes to their lightness and maneuverability, unfortunately, did not associate a chassis and brakes up to their high performance, making them often unmanageable for people not so experienced. This has contributed greatly to the spread of their nickname: “flying coffins”.

Regardless of this fact we hungered owning one of these. And, for exemple, I did not stop to the “small” RD350LC but I also owned the “big sister”, the RD500LC. Virtually a replica of the 500 world champion with Kenny Roberts.

Coming to the model in question, it is a RD350LC 31k in wonderful condition given the age of 30 and only 15,000 km. In fact the bike was left unsold and used by the dealer (the original!) only few times a month for all these years. The new owner has lovingly arranged and prepared it to be registered at the Italian bike historic register, and is now ready to be sold.
