EX-NICOLAS CAGE BUGATTI 101 HEADS FOR BONHAMS SALE

The stunning ex-Nicolas Cage 1954 Bugatti 101 is incredibly rare. One of only six 101s built, and the only one featuring this particular Antem designed coachwork, it’s one of the most anticipated lots at Bonhams upcoming Chantilly Sale, taking place in France on 5 September.

It’s believed that Cage purchased the Bugatti around the time he starred in the film, Gone in Sixty Seconds. Also featuring Angelina Jolie, the film was a cinematic homage to the allure of rare and beautiful motor cars.
As life imitates art, Cage, like his character, also has a passion for rare and beautiful motor cars, the Bugatti 101 the perfect example.
In 1951 it was announced that the Bugatti factory intended to produce just 50 cars for delivery in July 1952. In the event, Bugatti’s other interests took precedence over the revived road car project and only six Type 101s were completed, making it one of the marques rarest models. It is offered at estimate €1,500,000-1,800,000 (£1,100,000-1,300,000).

Philip Kantor, Bonhams European Head of Motoring, said: “The 101 offered is one of just six 101s built, and the only one featuring this particular design of unique coupé coachwork by Antem. It’s exceptionally stylish, with a beautiful black over red colour combination which is reflected in its vibrant red leather interior. Bugatti built two types, the 101 and the 101C, the latter, offered here, equipped with supercharger.”

Aston Martin DB4C e DB5 Touring Superleggera at Bonhams Grand Palais Sale

Sale highlights, the 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible, estimated at €1,200,000-1,600,000 (£950,000-1,250,000), and the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, estimated at €1,600,000-1,900,000 (£1,250,000-1,500,000)
2015 will be the biggest Bonhams Grand Palais sale to date, with around 130 motor cars

Two fantastic cars from British luxury marque Aston Martin are set to be offered at Bonhams Paris sale on 5 February 2015.

Synonymous with Britain, and of course, British movie heroes, the luxury marque has produced some truly iconic motor cars throughout its decades of manufacture – arguably none more so than those designed in the David Brown era: the DB4 and DB5.

With only 70 produced, the 1962 DB4C is one of the rarest Aston Martin roadcars of its era. It successfully combines the brands traditional virtues of style and performance with the delights of open air motoring, and is today a most sought after and highly prized motor car.

Introduced in 1963, the DB5 was a development of the preceding DB4. Classically proportioned, the Touring-designed body established an instantly recognizable look that would stand the marque in good stead until 1970. Only 19 DB5 convertibles were ever made in left-hand drive, making this offering a very rare find.

Philip Kantor, Bonhams European Head of Motoring, said: “The duo of Aston Martins offered are perfect examples of the superior design that took hold of the brand in its post-war David Brown era – the cars were driven by the coolest of cool, and were accordingly featured in films of the decade; the DB5 model is synonymous with the James Bond franchise, and the DB4C came to a treacherous end over the alpine cliff edge in The Italian Job.

“Unusually, the pairing are both left-hand drive convertibles, making them ultra rare and highly sought after. They feature beautifully designed Italian coachwork from Touring’s Superleggera, successfully crafted on what is otherwise a very British car. At Bonhams we’re seeing great demand in the trend for cars of the 1960s, so expect some spirited bidding at our upcoming Paris auction.”

Pope Benedict XVI Harley-Davidson to be sold for charity at Bonhams Paris Sale

The Pope's Harley Davidson 1,690cc FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail Classic - img3

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle blessed with the signature of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and later received by Pope Francis, is to be sold for charity at Bonhams 5 February Paris Sale.

The motorcycle is to be offered as part of Bonhams Grand Palais auction, entered at no reserve, with an estimate of €15,000-25,000 (£11,700-19,600). In a special countdown to Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebrations, two commemorative motorcycle petrol tanks were presented to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

These were signed, and returned to the motorcycle legends US headquarters where they were mounted to their respective motorcycles. Of these, one remains in the Harley-Davidson museum in Milwaukee, USA. The remaining motorcycle – the FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail Classic destined for Bonhams 2015 sale – lay waiting for a special ceremony where it would be presented to the Pope in front of tens-of thousands of Harley-Davidson riders at 2013s 110th anniversary celebration.

However, in an unforeseen change to the papacy, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI abdicated in January 2013. Subsequently this saw the Softail Classic presented to the newly inaugurated Pope, his holiness Pope Francis.

“It’s an honour to have been selected to sell this fantastic machine. We expect a lot of interest, and hope to raise some spirited bidding for the very worthy charity selected,” said Ben Walker, International Director for Bonhams Motorcycle Department.

“In February 2014, Bonhams sold 1,585cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide signed by His Holiness Pope Francis. Now we’re delighted to offer a motorcycle received by both Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI; it was present during a pivotal period in the papacy of the Catholic Church, and we expect a lot of interest in it.”

Entered at no reserve, this unique motorcycle will have its auction proceeds donated to Stowarzyszenie Przyjazny Świat Dziecka (Friendly World Association), a Polish volunteer, independent, non-profit organization that offers care and support to children and families in need.

The Harley-Davidson will be sold on 5 February 2015 as part of Bonhams’ Les Grandes Marques du Monde sale at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Paris: Alexandre III Bridge, sunset and history

IMG_6144

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Alexander III bridge in Paris, connecting the Grand Palais (home to a wonderful auction Bohnams of 6 February 2014) and the Petit Palais at the Hôtel des Invalides. This magnificent bridge is not entitled to a king or an emperor French but to Alexander III of Russia and, curiously, today is probably the monument which Parisians are tied more. In fact, under its imposing span with the arrival of spring, hundreds of people gather to enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets and fascinating city of lights. Along the Seine with the arrival of summer, the banks are furnished with stand where you can organize photo exhibitions and film. Arise also places where we meet for a drink and organizes the evening maybe sitting on wooden planks arranged in steps. This whole scene ceases to exist at the end of the season, and gives way to the quick passage of the Parisian bikes that use a great deal of mingling with everyday traffic.
Returning to the bridge, it celebrates the alliance between Tsar Alexander III of Russia and French President Marie François Sadi Carnot, this agreement was the basis of the coalition in World War I led to the name of the Triple Entente between the British Empire, the French Third Republic and the Russian Empire. It’s in the Art Nouveau style and is richly decorated. The four pillars are the representations of medieval France, of the Renaissance, of the King’s absolutist and finally to the modern one. The first stone was laid by Tsar Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, shot along with his family in 1918. The bridge was finally inaugurated on the occasion of the Great Universal Exhibition of 1900. It was the first bridge to cross the Seine with a single span. It was declared a historical monument in 1975. Ha regained its original color on the occasion of its total restoration in 1998. The Showcase, is located on the right bank, since December 2006, used as a discotheque, concert hall and recording studio television. It’s known for having been the backdrop to the video by Adele in her single Someone Like You. Certainly, we remain enthralled to watch the sun go down behind the bridge. In a magnificent scene and rich of history, with a single glance you embrace the perennial symbols of the years most magnificent of Paris history. We would not go away, “sed tempus fugit”…
